Round HOuse

Preserve & Improve

Project Description

Originally designed in 1960 by renowned Sarasota School of Architecture architects Jack West and Elizabeth Boylston Waters, the art studio commissioned by American painters Dorothy and Hilton Leech has been thoughtfully restored to honor its historic significance while updating it for a modern residential living. The team focused on preserving the original structure while upgrading essential systems, including mechanical, electrical, and plumbing, to meet contemporary standards

The studio’s unique round design posed structural and architectural challenges, with spaces on the ground level connected along the perimeter.

The original hanging rail system from the studio was thoughtfully retained and repurposed to elegantly display artwork in the residence, while a newly designed, fully integrated kitchen with a wine bar was seamlessly incorporated to complement the homeowners’ updated lifestyle.

The former storage and utility room were reimagined into a luxurious master suite, complete with frosted glass doors for privacy and windows overlooking a serene private patio. The master bathroom was expanded to include double sinks, a bathtub, and a spacious shower.
